Once the launch trailer had established Resistance’s place in the saga, it was time to showcase how the series presented a new, irreverent spin on Star Wars adventures.

My initial instinct was to hire a creative vendor to produce a Baby Driver-inspired music/beat/SFX-driven spot, but my creative leadership encouraged me to give it a crack myself.

What followed was an intense period of creative sequestration, first with me taking a single horn blast from a basketball anthem from a stock library, pitch-bending it across the scale, and creating a remix that threads together John Williams’s Imperial March, Kylo Ren theme and March of the Resistance. Not bad for one note …

Next, I created a spreadsheet that assigned each note an action shot and sound effect - with printed screencaps and notes making my office walls (and probably me) resembling the conspiracy board from the Charlie Day meme.

A polish pass by my trusted editor Nicole Domenici brought in the series’s sense of humor, in a :30 spot that exemplifies how Star Wars’s can span the perilous and the silly, the old and the new.
